The use of mathematical and simulation models in the field of the water supply and distribution is very common nowadays. Geographic Information System (GIS) within water service companies is closely related to the other information systems. GIS can be summarized as follows:
- It contains graphical and descriptive data of the networks and properties run by water service companies as well as geographical and other administrators‘ data (power engineering, thermal engineering etc.)
- Localization and marking of the water pipes
- Contains data enabling a company to produce project documentation
- Generation of specific maps and three-dimensional structures
- Provides the background for territorial planning
- Provides access to data via mobile GIS
